Modern Pirate Pty Ltd ("Modern Pirate", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use and share your personal information when you visit modernpirate.com.au or buy from us. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

WHAT WE COLLECT

  • Contact and order details: your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address, and order history.
  • Payment details: payments are processed securely by our payment providers. We do not store your full card details.
  • Website activity: device and browser information, IP address, pages and products viewed, and how you interact with our site and emails. This is collected through cookies, pixels and similar technologies.
  • Messages you send us, such as customer support enquiries.

HOW WE USE IT

  • To process, ship and support your orders.
  • To answer your questions and provide customer service.
  • To send you marketing emails, but only if you have opted in. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • To show you relevant ads for our products on other platforms (see "Advertising" below).
  • To improve our website, products and service, and to prevent fraud.

ADVERTISING

We advertise on platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. To do this we may:

  • Use cookies and pixels on our website to measure our ads and show ads to people who have visited our site.
  • Share a securely encrypted (hashed) version of your email address or phone number with these platforms, so we can show ads to our existing customers, avoid showing them ads they don't need, and reach new people with similar interests.

The platforms match this information against their own users and do not use it to identify you to us.

You can opt out of personalised ads in your Meta and Google ad settings, or email us at info@modernpirate.com.au and we will exclude your details from our customer lists.

WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We only share your information with service providers who help us run our business, including:

  • Shopify (our online store platform)
  • Our payment providers
  • Our fulfilment warehouse and delivery partners
  • Klaviyo (our email platform)
  • Meta and Google (advertising, as described above)

We do not sell your personal information. We may also disclose information where required by law.

OVERSEAS DISCLOSURE

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States, Canada and Ireland. We take reasonable steps to make sure they protect your information.

SECURITY

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Our website uses encrypted (SSL) connections for all transactions.

ACCESS AND CORRECTION

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@modernpirate.com.au.

COMPLAINTS

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, please contact us first. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.
